In accordance with your request, the bearer,
Lt. Peter K. Olitsky, Medical Reserve Corps, United States
Army, has been sent to Hong Kong to advise with the govern- ment in connection with the epidemic of cerebro-apínal fever
and to assist in the production of antimeningococcic serum
for the treatment of that disease.
Lt.
Olišky is well informed on the general
subject of epidemic meningitis, its diagnosis, serum treat- ment, means of prevention, etc., and he will wish to put his services freely at the disposal of the government.
Lt. Olitsky is carrying with him cultures of the meningococcus with which to begin immunization of horses pending the obtaining of cultures directly from cases occur- ring in Hong Kong. He is taking with him a small supply of the antimeningococcic serum and larger supplies have been sent by express; it is hoped they will arrive at the same
time with him.
According to the cable message which reads as
follows:
"Nominate Lieutenant Peter K. Olitsky, Medical
Sails Vancouver "Reserve Corps, for meningitis service, "April eleventh. If travelling and subsistence paid,
ConfirmTM "Rockefeller Institute will pay salary,
the Rockefeller Institute will continue Lt. Qlitsky's salary and the Colonial Government will merely cover, as I under- stand they desire to do, the cost of travel and that of subsistence. The Rockefeller Institute is very happy to offer Lt. Olitsky's services and the shipments of anti-
